That post is also pretty disheartening. It  taught a big  lesson at a high price.

When I was in India and China I was more worried about shit like this than anything else. There are so many things that look unsafe.

That car slams to the pavement before things even topple over it. That's a lot of weight

I’ve had similar comments on Jalopnik. “If the driver behind you isn’t paying attention and hits you , you should have recognized that in advance and already pulled off the road to let him pass ”.

I mean...conceivably yes, but that’s asking a bit much.

I saw a guy yesterday  in an old battered F-350 with concrete blocks piled up in the bed. A couple were well above the bed. Not secured at all. I was pretty horrified and kept my distance. Then he got on the expressway.

I just advise folks to watch their mirrors. Saved me from being rear ended by a semi that hit the brakes too late.

holy shit. I passed the recovery scene of a cement mixer that had gone off the highway. They were lifting the barrel with a could of tow truck style cranes and putting it on a flatbed 18 wheeler . I dont think anyone was seriously hurt with this one but the truck left a pretty big hole in the woods at the edge of the road.

this company seems to have a history of hitting trees as there have bee n at least two driver in large dump trucks , in this town alone, hitting trees in the last year

Those extra camera angles lend some VERY valuable information. Thank you for that link.

I still can’t quite make out the color of the traffic signal, but I assume that it’s red. Wish I could see if it had only recently turned red as they approached it. It’s hard to gauge everybody’s reaction time otherwise.

T he truck probably had enough time and distance to stop for the red , until it was  cut off by TWO last-second lane changes. Not cool!

Jalopnik dives towards YT comment quality with each passing day.  I suspect people who make such arguments either don’t drive at all, or have manyat-fault accidents on their record.  Something about doth protest too much.

I suspect non-drivers are way more sympathetic to the victims, since they really aren’t ever in position to hurt anyone else. I suspect what you are seeing with those comments is mostly arrogance and bravado of the sort that makes insurance really expensive for young men.

It reminds me of those who bitch about players in various pro sports, the bitchers of course have no real experience or have never played anything at any level , but will loudly critique  those who have the skills to play at a high level.  I detect a lot of clapped out old WRXs and Evos, along with a dose of vape smoke, from the “one should avoid everything” crowd.

Yeah it drove me nuts seeing kids hanging off things. I think it was the Top Gear India special that said a person dies every 7 seconds on a road in India. I saw a couple dead people covered up on the side of the road in China, but not India. Maybe that is just better response time. My friend who is married to a lady from China said people don’t want any trouble there so they leave the scene if they can. I was impressed with Indian drivers, but n ot Chinese!
